Rhynia (Rhy·ni·a)

Rhynia was a plant that existed over 300 million years ago. The Rhynia plant provided clues as to the probable evolutionary pathways, that gave rise to modern plants, as well as the mechanisms by which plants adapted to terrestrial habitats.

Rhynia allies with our organization, by honoring that we each have weathered our own storms and adapted to our different habitats to survive. We believe that rooted together, we are able to stand tall and grow, honoring our right to thrive.

Our Story

In 2020, Rhynia Inc.’s founder Lindsey Matarazzo, visited a small village in India. During her time there, she was invited to gather with a Women’s Group called the Auroshakti. This is a group of females who represent all walks of life with a variety of ages. They meet monthly in community to support each other, both personally and professionally. These woman truly and deeply trust each other, as well as count on one another.

At the beginning of every meeting, each member would offer a nominal membership fee, that would be placed into a collective group fund. When a sister member needed financial assistance, they would approach the group to pitch their idea or explain their personal situation. A collective decision would then be made, as to whether or not, grant a donation from the group funds to support their sister in need.

The day Lindsey gathered with the Women of Auroshakti, happened to be the day a group photo was taken for their center’s newsletter. After the picture, the Auroshakti Women said, “I guess we are now an International Women’s Group!” The inspiration for a feminine honoring international community was sparked.

From that dream a seed was planted. After sitting dormant for some time, it held its space, then in 2023 it started to sprout. At the Blazing Star Herbal School Apprenticeship, a community was formed that nurtured and cultivated an environment for Rhynia to take root. Together we are opening the first grove! This will enable us to support women’s groups locally and abroad; which will connect our unique, individual strengths, into a collective network.
